Superkids: In Superkids, we continued to review words with the "th" blend. Your child read phrases with "th" words, then underlined each of the words containing the "th" blend, and wrote "Thanks!" or "No, Thanks!" to tell if they liked each of the things shown. In reading groups, we read What a Pet! To build upon our comprehension skills, we discussed picture-text relationships. In addition, your child was introduced to an idiom (words or phrases that cannot be taken literally).
Math: In math, we continued to focus on addition strategies with three addends. Your child listened to multiple addition stories. Using the grouping strategy, your child grouped the double addends in the equation first. Then they solved the doubles and carried over the extra addend. Here is an example of a sample equation 7+2+2=?
Step 1 - add the doubles 2+2 = 4
Step 2 - carry down the 7 in the equation
Step 3 - rewrite the equation using the answer from 2+2. Your new equation would be 7+4=11
Science: In science, we began learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin. We discussed the process/steps for a pumpkin to grow. The life cycle is as follows:
- Plant a seed
- Roots begin to grow into the moist soil
- The seedling begins to grow leaves
- Vines and flowers begin to appear
- Bees pollinate the flowers
- The pumpkin appears!
